Daily Practice. Maintaining peace of mind and balanced energy doesn’t happen by accident. Some days, it takes a lot of focus and work and every day is not perfect. In order to start your day out with a direction, I suggest that you have a daily practice which will help you focus on maintaining your desired state of mind.

The first category that I address is “gratitude”. Throughout my life, I have been fortunate in so many ways and sometimes, it is easy to just take a good life for granted. Additionally, when things are not going well, we can all focus on the bad, and overlook things that are so good. For this reason, gratitude has to be part of every day. It can include the simplest gifts or feelings that you notice for the day, including a beautiful day, a walk in nature or listening to music. It is amazing how your frame of mind changes when you measure an acknowledge your gifts, large and small.

Joy and Sharing

Some days are dull and boring and it seems that nothing is going right. On days like that, I definitely need to make an extra effort to find something to be joyful about, to laugh about, or to celebrate. Once you get in the habit, it is not hard, and the rewards are immeasurable.

Additionally, it is important to share with others because connecting with others is essential for a full life. Whether it is a quick cup of morning coffee, a call or more, people are life.


Depending on what stage of life you are in, it may be very hard to actually schedule time to engage in meaningful self care. If you are working, in a relationship or managing a family, time for you can be scarce. It is necessary to take that time though, because when you spend all your time giving to others without renewing your self, you will burn out. Self care can be a 20 minute bath, a bicycle ride, or relaxing massage.

Intentions And Action Steps

Generally, regardless of what stage of life you are in, you have goals and dreams and things that you want to accomplish. For most, being organized is essential to actually getting the things done that you want or need to do. I find that it is helpful to set an intention for a goal, because that is the first step in making it a reality. Envision it, and start planning with your action steps that will be needed to make your dream, goal or vision a reality. This can include business goals or personal goals–the process is the same. You have to name it to claim it.


This is probably the most important step that you need to take every day, because if you obsess about negative experiences and let things consume you, they will steal your day and your peace. If necessary, list several things that need to be released on a day in order to restore your equanimity. You need to release negative energy and live in the present moment.
